February 8, 2025February 9, 2025

Painting a Daring Canadian Landscape: Exploring the Colour and Brushwork of Tom Thomson is an intermediate/advanced oil painting workshop with artist Vicky Lentz.

During this two-day workshop, artists with previous experience working in oils will be encouraged to delve into the vibrant and direct style of one of Canada’s most significant 20th-century painters, Tom Thomson.

Led by senior New Brunswick artist Vicky Lentz, the workshop will provide participants with an in-depth exploration of Thomson's techniques, methods, and use of color. Starting with oil sketches, participants will work from reference photos to capture the quick and expressive nature of Thomson's sketches. On the second day, they will develop one of these small sketches into a larger canvas work.

Participants will have the opportunity to experience the joy and inspiration of Thomson’s ecstatic painting style and his profound connection to the Canadian landscape.

This workshop is in conjunction with the "Tom Thomson: North Star" exhibition at the Beaverbrook Art Gallery.
