Wednesday, August 6, 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm, the Beaverbrook Art Gallery is pleased to host the launch of Future Me is Fat, the debut graphic novel by cartoonist and illustrator Mollie Cronin. Coinciding with Downtown Fredericton’s Gallery Hop!
Future Me is Fat is a semi-autobiographical graphic novel that blends science fiction and autofiction. The narrative follows a fat protagonist on a series of time-travel adventures through personal memory, family history, and speculative futures. With sharp humour and emotional depth, the novel explores the intersections of body image, cultural trends, and identity formation.
Mollie Cronin is a cartoonist originally from Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Fredericton, New Brunswick. Since 2015, she has produced comics and illustrations under the name Art Brat Comics, examining topics such as modern dating, fatphobia, and gender dynamics. Her work has appeared on Hulu’s Shrill, in the book Every Body by Molly Forbes (2023), as tattoo art, and in alt-weekly publications.
Cronin holds a Bachelor of Arts in Art History from NSCAD University (2015), and a Master of Arts in Gender Studies from Queen’s University (2024). She has taught comics courses through NSCAD’s extended studies program and has lectured at Dalhousie University, the University of Toronto, and Queen’s University. She is currently a PhD candidate at York University. Future Me is Fat is her first published graphic novel.
