The faculty and graduates of Mount Allison University’s Fine Arts department in Sackville, NB, fostered one of the most important art institutions in Canada. From its founding in the mid-19th century to the present day, many of Canada’s most consequential and respected artists have taught at the Mount Allison School of Fine Arts, or graduated from its programs. The substantial exhibition Leaders in the Field: The History and Legacy of Art at Mount Allison will present the broad sweep of these individuals, their achievements, and their legacies over the past century and a half that have enriched and inspired Canada and the world. The exhibition will testify to an important aspect of our cultural past that will shed a wide light on who we are as a region and people, and how Mount Allison contributed to visual art and culture in Canada.
The list of artists includes such luminaries as: Alex Colville, Mary Pratt, Christopher Pratt, Tom Forrestall, Christian McKiel, John Hammond, Susan Low-Beer, Thaddeus Holownia, Herménégilde Chiasson, Evergon, Danica Lundy, Lawren P. Harris, Janice Wright-Cheney, and Harold Feist, among many others.
Exhibition curated by Dr. John Leroux and organized by the Marion McCain Institute for Atlantic Canadian Art
