Sculpture is a three-dimensional art, but to arrive at finished works many artists go through a long series of studies and working drawings that allow them to decide on approaches and materials on paper, rather than in the often recalcitrant and expensive materials of their finished work. Others use drawing to round out ideas, or to create experiments that may never see the light of day, but which nonetheless inform their sculptures. Finally, many sculptors make stand-alone drawings, works in themselves that explore similar themes and images to their more material work.
Drawings by Sculptors includes drawings that fit all these parameters, with works by German/Canadian sculptor Vanessa Paschakarnis, Canadian sculptor Sorel Etrog, British sculptor Henry Moore, and Canadian sculptor Tony Urquhart.
