BRUNO BOBAK ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE STUDIO

As part of the expansion of the Beaverbrook Art Gallery, the Bruno Bobak Artist-in-Residence Studio (BBAIRS) will host resident artists and arts professionals and provide them with space to undertake their own work. In this environment they will be encouraged to draw inspiration from the permanent collection and engage with the public in a multitude of ways.

This program demonstrates that not only is art housed in the Gallery, but it can also be conceived and created here by professional artists, children, students, and lifelong learners.

While the artists are conducting their residence, Gallery visitors will have the opportunity to experience live art as it’s being created. Artists from across New Brunswick, Canada, and abroad will be invited work and interact with the public through designated short or long-term artist-in-residence programs. Artists of all media as well as storytellers, educators, filmmakers, curators, writers and performers will participate and add new engaging dimensions to the Gallery’s programs. The on-site studio, which receives support from government funding programs and private sources, will provide the visiting artist-in-residence with time and space to complete a new body of work. Part of the residency will include public demonstrations, talks, mentoring opportunities, and classes. The artist- in-residence will also interact with Gallery volunteer guides, teachers, instructors, students on tours, visitors of all ages, gallery educators and community groups. The artist-in-residence will be available for presentations, demonstrations, workshops and activities.

Exhibition-related residencies:
Supported by the Sheila Hugh Mackay Foundation
From Mid-September to Mid-June every year, the Beaverbrook Art Gallery invites visual artists as whose exhibitions are on view, and creators whose work connects creatively with the exhibitions or permanent collection on view in the Gallery to participate in 4-to 6-week residencies. The honorarium for residency program participants is $600/week.

Please send us your residency ideas and description, along with a brief bio and portfolio or studio photos.

The Gallery will apply (or co-apply) for municipal, provincial and federal funds to support residencies and their related programs. In some cases, the Gallery may cover additional expenses directly related to the residencies, such as the purchase of materials, transportation, and lodging for out-of-town participants.
