She identifies as Trans Two-Spirit and uses she\/her pronouns. As a Mi\u2019gmaq couturier, Oakley\u2019s work spans both the historical replication of Mi\u2019gmaq artifacts and culturally relevant couture pieces. Her creative vision focuses on decolonizing the fashion realm by producing work that draws inspiration through a Mi\u2019gmaq lens. Her latest collection, Mesiatl (infected), highlights the stories of her ancestors while showcasing the impact of systemic racism and colonization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Projet<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During her residency, Oakley Rain Wysote Gray will create a half-scale garment incorporating insights from her research on historical artifacts and haute couture pieces. The stages she plans to showcase at The Beaverbrook include pattern drafting, mock-ups and samples, and the creation of the final garment.
