St George: Ebb & Flow is a photographic tribute to the residents of the small community of St. George on the Bay of Fundy, home to the highest tides in the world. Lapides was inspired to document these moments in time, especially the transitions in the age-old fishing industries as they rapidly reinvent themselves to keep pace with climate change and global demands. The artist, a celebrated American photographer, returns each summer to this place with a fresh perspective, seeking to find intimate moments that feel iconic to the maritime experience: the deep connection to the natural world, the rhythm of the tides, and the mesmerizing, shifting beauty. This project evolved to create an in-depth measure of the human presence in coastal New Brunswick.
Curated by John Leroux and organized and circulated by the Beaverbrook Art Gallery.
