Natasha Sacobie, is a Wolastoqiyik visual artist from Pilick. Natasha’s current work speaks to Wolastoqey history and culture. Combining a love for vintage flair, archival research and nature, Natasha plans to fulfill educational needs through contemporary art, in order to keep language, tradition and culture alive.
During her residency, Natasha will be doing porcupine quillwork. Drawing inspiration from the simplistic, natural world around us, Natasha will be using harvested quills and birch bark to fuse a piece set in a vintage frame, which will be captured in hues of grey and black tones, exemplifying her personal taste.
This residency is an opportunity for the public to experience and observe the process involved in preparing and creating with birch bark and porcupine quills. Natasha will encourage visiting public to try their hand at quilling on pre-drawn sample pieces.
