Indigo Poirier is an electronic music artist, a trans woman, and a member of the Wolastoqiyik nation. Originally hailing from Bilijk (Kingsclear First Nation), she is currently based in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Her musical work combines an eclectic mix of influences, including breakcore, chiptune, metal, classical, and whatever happens to catch her fancy on a particular day. She formerly played in local Fredericton-based bands Ski Team and Helium Submarine, as well as the improv trio Terre Wa. Recently, she has been more focused on her solo work as Wangled Teb. You can hear her most recent releases as part of the collaboration albums Strawberry Jams Vol. 1-5.
Project
Over the course of four weeks, I will engage directly with certain pieces currently on display in the gallery by reimagining them as video game levels and bosses and writing theme music for them. The work will be completed using a combination of modern synthesisers and sound design techniques, as well as the sounds of retro video game consoles like the Super Nintendo and the Gameboy. I will finish with a series of works that will, through an eclectic mix of genres and moods, aim to present these works of art in a fresh new light. I will also reimagine some of the paintings as bosses and levels in video game form through pixel art (pixel art is artwork that deliberately uses extremely low resolutions to ape the aesthetic of classic video games).
