Present the Past project
My objective is to document my observations during the month I spend in the Bruno Bobak Artist Residency, and to preserve memories of that experience in a meaningful way through drawing and painting.
Objects from the Beaverbrook Collection will be present in the studio, which I will paint from as part of my daily practice. During interactions with visitors and as I wander through other exhibitions in the Gallery, the compositions I capture on my cell phone will be used as references for paintings also. I will obtain consent from any humans who might become subjects.
Each oil painting is worked in layers over several days. I will have many paintings at different stages of development at a time, hung on the walls for visitors to observe. One who visits several times during the month will see the working process and the progression of the project.
You can visit Dawn in the Bruno Bobak Artist-in-Residence studio during gallery hours.
