Ned Pratt: One Wave

Ned Pratt (Canadian, 1964 – ), St. Philip's Beach (detail), 2016. Chromogenic print. 88.3cm x 118.1cm

September 27 - January 16, 2020    |    Regular Exhibition

Ned Pratt’s respect for Newfoundland's landscape is the foundation of his work. He distills found locations in his photographs, abstracting the features of a place to elegant compositions of form and colour. His works disrupt depth with close architectural details and incisions of poles and wires, undermining a traditional, romantic notion of “looking out” to a sublime view. This exhibition charts a decade of Pratt’s photography. Earlier, stark imagery of buildings will be placed alongside his forays into abstraction, as well as his recent celebrations of the inherent geometry of organic forms – such as a single wave crashing over a wall.

Exhibition curated by Mireille Eagan and organized by The Rooms Provincial Art Gallery. Presented with the support of CI Institutional Asset Management (a division of CI Investments Inc.).
