Curator Crunch: Mary Pratt’s Table

Feb 12: 12:15- 12:50 pm. Mary Pratt remains one of Canada's most recognized and beloved artists. The Beaverbrook Art Gallery has a fine depiction of the dining room in her parent's house (now owned by her sister), whose subject is the darkly-stained wood dining set with its empty chairs - all standing on a deep red carpet. While the scene may seem "empty" of life, the stark rays of bright natural sunlight enliven the surfaces of the scene, bringing a joyous energy and vivacity to the otherwise stoic space. Feb 16: 3:00 pm. This month, pARTage will be held during Family Art Day. Marie-Hélène works with different techniques using textiles and fibres to create pieces that go beyond tradition; often giving a new life to objects or clothing. She loves reusing material, using yarn or thread to redo lamps or shirts. She participated in the Third Shift even in 2017, where she set up her large weaving frame and invited the public to participate in a weaving. More info here
