CREATING HERE AND NOW—Important Information: Temporary Closure for Renovations

Beaverbrook Art GalleryOctober 22, 20150 Comments

October 22, 2015 – The Beaverbrook Art Gallery is changing! Our expansion project is underway, and will add new, additional space for visitors, including exhibition spaces, learning spaces, a café, and a sculpture courtyard. We are also, additionally, taking the opportunity to renovate part of our existing building to provide an enhanced visitor experience, as well as in preparation to join the new pavilion to the existing facility.

Many of our main floor galleries are being renovated, with the area just past the entrance known as the High Gallery changing dramatically: we are raising the floor level to match that of the surrounding galleries, making the main floor more accessible and unified. The foyer will be redesigned as part of this project, to better welcome our valued members and guests.

Because of the central location of this work, and because of the nature of the projects involved, the building will be temporarily closed to visitors from January 18, 2016, until May, 2016. While we would of course prefer to be able to provide uninterrupted access to the Gallery and its exhibitions, we also need to be diligent in our protection of the collection, and in ensuring the safety of our staff, members, and guests. One of our goals is also to provide a pleasant and comfortable setting for experiencing and exploring the visual arts; with all the noise and activity happening, that simply won’t be feasible. We are confident that this short term absence is worth it in the long run, and we can’t wait to show you the renewed space!

Just because our building is closed, that doesn’t mean we won’t be working! We’ll continue work on many aspects of the Gallery’s operation: Our curatorial staff will be working on new and exciting exhibitions to come, and will be working on new and creative ways to keep you connected to your Beaverbrook Art Gallery’s collection. Our public programs staff will be maintaining our afterschool and outreach programs, and have some other, exciting activities lined up for you that will be announced shortly. Our development and membership staff will be on-hand to provide information to our members, and our communications staff will continue providing regular updates on the project as it happens.

For up-to-date information, we encourage you to visit our website, or get in touch directly. You can visit our site at www.beaverbrookartgallery.org.

From all of us here at your Beaverbrook Art Gallery, we thank you for your understanding and continued support. We hope you’re as excited as we are about this renovation and expansion project!

We look forward to welcoming you into our renewed and reinvigorated building, and especially to celebrating Lord Beaverbrook Day with you on May 29, 2016, where our annual open house event will also be an occasion to visit this newly-renovated space.
